May 2014 Update

The beach restoration project is moving forward and dredging will commence in the summer.  Delays were caused by additional agency requirements for sampling, surveys and engineering drawings, but ABWIG and the County are proceeding to obtain permit modifications and ABWIG will soon put the dredging project out for bid.

The Park will be closed for installation of the breakwaters and continue to be closed until the beach is restored with the sand dredged from the channels.

Dredging will begin on the North Channel, then continue on the Main and South Channels, ending with the Manatee Season.

The Apollo Beach Nature Preserve was purchased to provide costal wildlife habitat, protect endangered species in the vicinity, and provide coastal park access for recreation.

How is this project going out to bid?

  3. MillisaN says:

This project will only dredge the North, Main and South channels leading into Apollo Beach.

Are there any plans to dredge the washout just east of the Fairway Blvd bridge? It is getting increasingly difficult to navigate and would only need an area of 10 X 20 feet or so of cleaning out.
